Doctor Who - Twelfth Doctor Lariat Necklace

by Renee Allen

Happy August 23!

For those non-Doctor Who fans out there, umm... this won't make sense. For all those out there who have been waiting ALL YEAR: ooooooo WEEEEEEE oooooooo!!  xDDD

That's right! It's Peter Capaldi's turn to take over as one of the most beloved characters in teevee history and being a Capaldi fan pre-Doctor Who, I'm over the moon to see him in this iconic role.

In celebration of the premier episode (TODAY!), I made a thing. If you'll remember, I played with etching brass a few months back and The Doctor was one of my experiments. I finally decided to make a pocket watch lariat necklace.

First, the watch...

Watch detail - vintage clock face with clock parts suspended in resin. I think I may do a collage treatment over the clock face as well... I'll have a think on that...

I wanted to keep the translucency of the resin so you could see through the watch and see the gear details floating around. :)

Next came fashioning a sonic screwdriver from a few beads. I love how this turned out. :)

Add a fancy TARDIS key and the components are ready for assembly!

UPDATE: I just watched the first ep. and all I can say w/o spoilers is holy fuckballs, we're in for a ride. :D

Assemblage necklace

by Renee Allen

Assemblage is defined as "a work of art made by grouping found or unrelated objects" and this is how I describe my design style and this necklace. I rummaged around my studio and found things that needed to be together. The result is a quirky, one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art!

Vintage earring, mixed media bezel, Victorian imagery under resin, clock face, leaves and who knows what else!

Old Fashioned Flowers

by Renee Allen

This necklace was a variation of my bridal piece. I got some new colors of Gilder's Paste and wanted to use the Pinotage right away. I first used a white primer on the flowers and lightly brushed the flowers with Pinotage and Gold.

Once the pinotage flowers were dry, I added verdigris and chocolate bronze leaves as well as a shabby chic white flower dusted in gold for contrast.

Adding some elements that might work in the final piece including some homemade polymer beads. Spoiler alert - they didn't make the cut. xD

Added amber and gold microbead centers.

The final result is an old-fashioned looking piece. Not sure I'm satisfied with it. It doesn't have that "something" that makes it work for me. I may add those beads pictured above and replace the bookchain and try to quirk it up. :)
